The definition of holism is that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. When it comes to holistic health 1+1+1=4! We experience synergy when we address the whole person - body, mind, and spirit together.
Human beings are created as trichotomous (3-part) creatures. If we want to experience all the health and vitality we are capable of, we mustn't ignore any part of the human condition. In order to maximize our health potential we need to have all of our proverbial oars in the water generating leverage at the same time.
Most healthcare practitioners consider the body in isolation, virtually ignoring the mind/body connection and the spiritual component to our health. If someone's health challenge is connected to their persistent anger and rage, switching to a 100% organic diet is not going to bring the desired results. We don't call these toxic emotions for nothing. In addition, our spiritual health is all about relationships. "It is not good for the man to be alone" (Genesis 2:18) No one is ever going to invent a pill that cures loneliness.
We maximize our health potential by cooperating with God's design for spirit, mind, and body. We should adjust our lifestyle choices to be in alignment with our design, not opposed to it. When we respect the God-ordained hierarchy to our trichotomous nature, we can expect to see some pretty dramatic results.
We must understand that our spirits are created to be connected to, animated by, and in submission to God. Our minds are designed to be animated by and in submission to our spirits. Our minds animate our brains in our brains are in control of our bodies.
